To detect an air compressor pressure relief valve problem you have to look out for certain symptoms like air bleeding pressure deficit etc.
Air compressor relief valve leaking.
Well if air continuously leaks out of the unloader valve then the compressor tank is emptying and the compressor needs to restart to replenish the air in the tank to get back up to cut out pressure so it can stop on its own.
Steve watkins at work.
The safety valve pops open to relieve excessive air pressure if the pressure switch fails to shut off the air compressor at the cut out pressure setting.
The unloader valve is only leaking when the compressor is running.
Safety relief valve not functioning properly.
But then before you get to use any air it s all leaked out again and the compressor restarts to fill the tank again.
I took the check valve out cleaned it up and re assembled everything and all is good.
If new safety valve leaks remove cylinder head inspect and clean reed valve assembly.
The unloader valve is leaking air when the compressor is running.
Air leaking from inter stage safety relief valve when compressor is pumping.
The compressor seems to be running fine pressures and volume are good relief valve is closed up until the tank is almost full and the relief valve closes when the motor stops.
I had a look at the check valve and all is good.
The valve on the outside of the pressure switch may look something like the one in the image.
The spring is made in such a way that it will only bend when the pressure reaches the level you have set.
Today while using the sandblast cabinet the relief valve on top of the head started popping off when almost to the end of a tank filling cycle.
When the nozzle reaches this pressure the disc inside the valve starts to lift and relief the air from the tank.
I did a little more research and found out the the part that was leaking is the pressure release valve.
So the disc is lifted up and drawn down by the spring.
Further if anyone has a model 919152811 air compressor and is looking for the valve plates they are no longer.
Replace the air compressor pressure switch.
Moreover you have to keep a close eye towards your pressure gauge.
This was caused by a leaking check valve.
There is a spring inside the valve which is attached to the disc.
Replace the safety valve if it leaks or pops open at normal operating pressure.
Leaky gasket high pressure inlet valve.
